Normally an abortion is free of charge if you live and work in the Netherlands. We offer various abortion methods. You’ll find below a list with the different methods and their pros and cons. We will also discuss these with you in detail during your visit to the clinic to make sure we use the right method for you. Abortion pill
This procedure involves medication and consists of two stages. The first stage is in the clinic where we will give you a tablet to be taken with water. The pill will stop the pregnancy. This stage is normally problem free.
The next stage takes place in your own home. After 24 hours and up to 72 hours you’ll have to put four small pills in your vagina. These will cause a miscarriage.
Meestal ontwikkel je 4 tot 6 uur later krampen met bloedverlies. Dat kan heel erg meevallen en zelfs minder zijn dan een normale menstruatie, maar het kan ook tegenvallen. Daarom is het verstandig als er die dag iemand bij je is die je kan steunen als het tegenvalt.
Dit type behandeling is zeer veilig, maar het valt niet goed te voorspellen hoe jouw lichaam erop reageert. De meeste pijn is een paar uur na het inbrengen van de pillen weg. Het bloedverlies kan 1 tot 6 weken wisselend aanhouden. Wel kan je direct weer zwanger worden als je seks hebt na de behandeling, hou daar dus rekening mee.

Vacuum aspiration
This procedure is also known as suction curettage. You’ll be with us in the clinic for about four hours. You’ll be in the ward with other clients until your procedure starts. While in the ward you’ll be asked to dissolve two small pills under your tongue. These pills prepare the uterus and may cause some cramps and bleeding.
Na een uur word je in de behandelkamer op een gynaecologische stoel behandeld. Je kunt ervoor kiezen de behandeling niet bewust mee te maken. Daarvoor krijg je dan een roesje/sedatie. Dit is een slaapmiddel dat via een infuus in je arm ingebracht wordt. Sommige cliënten vinden het juist prettiger om niet te slapen tijdens de behandeling. Dan kan je door de behandeling een krampende pijn in je buik voelen, zoals bij een menstruatie.
Tijdens de behandeling kijkt de arts met een eendenbek (speculum) in je vagina naar je baarmoedermond. Daarna wordt met een dun buisje je baarmoeder leeggezogen. Dit duurt meestal 5 tot 10 minuten. We kijken tijdens de behandeling mee met de echo of de behandeling goed verloopt.
Na de behandeling kan je rustig bijkomen in bed. Je kunt wat buikkrampen hebben, zoals bij een menstruatie. Je mag iets eten en drinken en na een uurtje mag je meestal weer naar huis.
Deze behandeling is zeer veilig. Er is een geringe kans op een ontsteking van de baarmoeder. Om die kans zo klein mogelijk te maken, kunnen we je antibiotica geven tijdens de behandeling.
Je kan direct weer zwanger worden als je seks hebt na de behandeling, hou daar dus rekening mee. Je kunt bij ons na abortus direct een spiraal of een anticonceptie staafje laten plaatsen.

Between 13 and 18 weeks of pregnancy:
Dilatation and evacuation (D&E)
With this procedure you’ll be with us in the clinic for about four hours. You’ll be in the ward with other clients until your procedure starts. While in the ward, you’re being asked to dissolve two small pills under your tongue. These pills prepare the uterus and may cause some cramps and bleeding.
After an hour you’ll be treated in the treatment room while lying in a gynaecology chair. We advise you to have this procedure with sedation. We’ll give you a light anaesthetic via an IV inserted in your arm.
Tijdens de behandeling kijkt de arts met een eendenbek (speculum) in je vagina naar je baarmoedermond. Daarbij wordt de zwangerschap uit de baarmoeder gehaald. Dit duurt meestal 15 tot 20 minuten. Met een echo wordt er continu gekeken of de behandeling goed verloopt.
Na de behandeling kan je rustig bijkomen in bed. Je kunt wat buikkrampen hebben, zoals bij een menstruatie. Je mag iets eten en drinken en na een uurtje meestal weer naar huis.
Deze behandeling is zeer veilig. Er is een zeer kleine kans op een ontsteking van de baarmoeder. Om die kans zo klein mogelijk te maken, kunnen we je antibiotica geven tijdens de behandeling.
